The Cross River State House of Assembly, has called on security agencies to intensify efforts towards the rescue of the recently kidnapped All Progressives Congress (APC) Ikom Chapter Chairman, Egomo Asinya, and his son.
The House of Assembly also wants stringent security measures to be applied at checkpoints along the highway, the purchase of GPS tracking machines for security agencies as well as the immediate destruction of all the thatch houses at Atimaka trailer park which allegedly serve as a hideout for criminal elements.
The State Lawmakers further urged the government to procure operational vehicles to beef up security across the State.
The Lawmakers adopted these resolutions sequel to a matter of urgent public interest brought before the House by the Member representing Abi State Constituency and Deputy Leader of the 10th Assembly, Rt. Hon. Davies Etta.
Etta informed the House that on the 19th of November 2023, the victims were traveling to Nde Three Corners from Ikom main town when they were kidnapped by unknown persons who later demanded a ransom of 100 million Naira. The Abi Lawmaker lamented the gross violation of the human rights of the victims as well as the inhuman treatment.
Also speaking, the Leader of the 10th Assembly, Rt Hon Bassey Asuquo, expressed sadness over the incident. He bemoaned the increasing cases of kidnapping across the State.
The majority of the Legislators lamented the incessant cases of kidnapping across the State and urged the State government through the security agencies to intensify efforts to curb the trend and return Cross River to its peaceful state.
On his part, the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt Hon Elvert Ayambem condemned the rising cases of kidnapping across the State, describing the situation as worrisome. Ayambem who expressed sadness over the incident, urged security operatives to intensify efforts to rescue the victims.
