Obudu PDP Chairman, Mr. Atsua, Set to Join APC After Closed-Door Meeting With Hon. Martin Orim

The Chapter Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Obudu, Mr. Francis Atsua, is set to defect to the All Progressives Congress following a closed-door meeting with Hon. Martin Orim at his residence, in Okweriseng village of Alege/Ubang Ward of Obudu.

After the discussions, Mr. Atsua announced his decision to join the APC and declared Hon. Orim as his political leader. Despite reported efforts by top PDP figures to prevail on him to remain, he is expected to formalize his defection in the coming weeks.

Celebration Galore in Obudu as Deputy Speaker Agabi Distributes Rice, Cash to Constituents

The Deputy Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Sylvester Agabi Jnr, on Friday distributed rice and cash to constituents in his hometown, Obudu Local Government Area, as part of a festive outreach.

Addressing beneficiaries, the lawmaker said the gesture was a follow-up to his Christmas palliative distribution, reaffirming that his support for the people extends beyond political promises.

The distribution cut across various political and sociocultural groups in Obudu, including Team Madiaha, Prince Is Coming group, the National Youth Council of Nigeria, APC Crusaders, Obudu Women Network, National Union of Road Transport Workers, Persons with Disabilities, Ranch Road Youths, as well as religious and ethnic groups.

Beneficiaries commended Hon. Agabi for his consistency and accessibility, noting that he has continued to deliver tangible support since assuming office. They described the initiative as a clear reflection of people-centered leadership and commitment to grassroots development in Obudu.

Deputy Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Sylvester Agabi Jnr, marked the Christmas and New Year celebrations with a series of goodwill visits and outreach activities across Obudu and Ogoja Local Government Areas, reaffirming his commitment to compassion, unity, and responsive leadership.

As part of the festive engagements, the Deputy Speaker paid a courtesy visit to the mother of the Deputy Governor of Cross River State, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Peter Odinga Odey. During the visit, Rt. Hon. Agabi presented bags of rice and other tokens in the spirit of the season to support the family’s Christmas and New Year celebrations. The elderly woman expressed gratitude for the visit, commending the Deputy Speaker for his benevolence and thoughtfulness during the period of celebration.

In Obudu Local Government Area, Rt. Hon. Agabi joined constituents in celebrating the Yuletide, with Hon. Omang Charles Omang in attendance. Addressing the gathering, he urged the people to remain focused, united, and steadfast in their support for the government of Cross River State, stressing that sustained cooperation between leaders and citizens was essential for peace, progress, and development in the New Year.

The Deputy Speaker also celebrated Christmas with the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Obudu LGA chapter. At the event, he donated 20 bags of rice and a cash token of two hundred thousand naira to support the association’s festive activities. Members of CAN offered prayers for Rt. Hon. Agabi and encouraged him to continue discharging his legislative responsibilities with dedication, humility, and a strong sense of service to the people.

Utukalu, Obudu Youths, Traditional Leaders Celebrate Hon. Chief Martin Orim

Hon. Chief Martins Orim, former Chief of Staff to the Governor of Cross River State, returned home on January 1, 2026, to a warm reception by supporters, community leaders, youths, and well-wishers in Obudu, marking the beginning of the New Year.

The visit coincided with the official opening and final matches of the Okwiriseng Unity Cup, a community football tournament organized in collaboration with the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Obudu Chapter. Hon. Chief Orim attended the event alongside the Executive Chairman of Obudu Local Government Area, Hon. Peter Undiandeye, and the Vice Chairman, Hon. Rhoda Ashong. The finals attracted a large crowd and underscored the role of sports in promoting unity and youth engagement within the community.

As part of the New Year engagements, members of the UTUKALU Traditional Rulers Council paid a courtesy visit to Hon.
