The Senate of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) has officially suspended nine students for the 2026/2027 academic session following its consideration of examination misconduct cases and the recommendations of the Senate Examination Misconduct Committee (SEMC).
The decision was formally communicated in a letter signed by the University Registrar, Dr. (Mrs.) Chukwuka Icha.
According to the official notification, the affected students are to remain suspended throughout the 2026/2027 academic session and are expected to resume their studies in the 2027/2028 academic session.
The affected students are Ogabi Christabel Emmanuel, Atim Sarah Mofam, Wasim Kumato, Onum Kingsley Evela and Reuben David Chinonso, all of the Department of Theatre and Media Studies, Faculty of Arts.
Others are Etuk Emediong Loius of the Department of Human Nutrition and Dietetics, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences; Okoronkwo Eleazar Chidera of the Department of Geology, Faculty of Physical Sciences; Atamgba Victor Yeneochiakim of the Department of Pharmacology, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences; and Thialo James Akobi of the Department of Sociology, Faculty of Social Sciences.
The university has directed the Acting Chief Security Officer, Deans, Heads of Departments and other relevant units to take note of the Senate’s decision and ensure full compliance with the suspension.
The announcement therefore confirms that the suspension takes effect for the 2026/2027 academic session, with the affected students scheduled to return in the 2027/2028 academic session, subject to the university’s applicable regulations.
