…Assures Governor of Obanliku’s support and electoral victory for APC
The Executive Chairman of Obanliku Local Government Area, Hon. Amb. Chief Sunny Ayang, JP, on Sunday led the people of Obanliku in receiving the Governor of Cross River State, Sen. Prince Bassey Edet Otu, who visited the Local Government to participate in the 2026 New Yam and Cultural Festival.
The Governor’s arrival was met with a colourful reception, as traditional rulers, political leaders, youths, women, cultural groups, community leaders and APC stakeholders gathered in large numbers to welcome him and celebrate Obanliku’s rich cultural heritage.
Speaking during the event, Chairman Sunny Ayang expressed appreciation to Governor Otu for honouring the people of Obanliku with his presence and for the attention his administration has continued to give the Local Government.
Ayang highlighted some of the major interventions of the Otu administration in Obanliku, particularly the 15-kilometre Sankwala Ring Road, Bassang Road project, the revival of the Obudu Mountain Resort and the development of Bebi Airstrip.
According to the Chairman, the projects represent important investments in the future of Obanliku, with the potential to improve road connectivity, boost tourism, strengthen economic activities and open up the Local Government to greater opportunities.
The Council Chairman also commended Governor Otu for the appointments extended to sons and daughters of Obanliku, describing them as a demonstration of the Governor’s recognition of the capacity and contributions of the people.
While appreciating the appointments already made, Ayang appealed to the Governor to consider more sons and daughters of Obanliku in future appointments and government opportunities, assuring him that the people would continue to reciprocate his administration’s goodwill and support.
On the political front, Chairman Ayang declared the continued loyalty of the people of Obanliku to Governor Otu and the All Progressives Congress, assuring the Governor of the Local Government’s commitment to delivering electoral victory for the APC in future elections.
He said the massive turnout at the festival was a reflection of the people’s appreciation of the Governor’s presence and their support for his administration.
Governor Otu, who joined the people of Obanliku in celebrating the 2026 New Yam and Cultural Festival, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the development of the Local Government and the welfare of its people.
Delivering the New Yam remarks on behalf of the people of Obanliku, the Commissioner for Science and Technology, Assoc. Prof. Justin Beshel, stressed the importance of preserving the cultural identity of the people while advancing unity, prosperity and sustainable development.
The festival attracted prominent political and traditional leaders, including the Deputy Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Hon. Sylvester Agabi; State Chairman of the APC, Rt. Hon. Chris Etta; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Chief Emmanuel Ironbar; Member representing the Obudu/Bekwarra/Obanliku Federal Constituency, Hon. Chief Peter Akpanke; Executive Chairman of Obudu LGA, Hon. Peter Undiandeye, Ph.D.; and the Paramount Ruler of Obanliku LGA, HRM Amb. (Dr.) Amos Uyimulam Item, JP, alongside members of the State Executive Council, APC executives, political appointees, traditional rulers, youths, women, NYCN representatives, stakeholders and support groups.
The Governor’s visit further strengthened the relationship between the Cross River State Government and the people of Obanliku, while providing Chairman Sunny Ayang an opportunity to publicly showcase the Local Government’s support for the Governor’s administration.
For Ayang, the occasion went beyond the celebration of culture. It was also an opportunity to highlight the administration’s development interventions, advocate for greater political inclusion for Obanliku and reaffirm the Local Government’s commitment to the political fortunes of Governor Otu and the APC.
