The Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chief Elvert Ayambem, has reaffirmed his commitment to grassroots sports development, presenting a trophy and cash reward to the champions of the Unity Tournament organised by Hon. Neku Enyeme, Councillor representing Nde Ward.
Ayambem, who attended the tournament alongside friends and associates, was specially invited and honoured as the facilitator of the renovation of the football pitch where the tournament final was played.
Addressing participants and spectators, the Speaker congratulated Etakor Community, winners of the tournament, for their hard work, discipline and determination throughout the competition.
He also commended Hon. Enyeme for organising the tournament and creating an avenue for young talents to showcase their abilities, stressing the importance of grassroots competitions in discovering and nurturing future football stars.
The Speaker used the occasion to pay an emotional tribute to his late friend, Prince Eka Williams, former Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy, whose death, he said, remained a painful loss.
