The Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, has described the death of the Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy, Prince Eka Williams, as a painful loss to Cross River State, saying the late commissioner left behind a record of dedicated public service.
Prince Williams reportedly died on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at a hospital in Abuja.
Ayambem, who spoke on behalf of the 10th Cross River State House of Assembly, said the deceased was a committed politician and public servant whose contributions to the administration and political development of the state would be remembered.
The Speaker particularly acknowledged Williams’ dedication as a member of the State Executive Council and his role in advancing conversations around Nigeria’s power sector as Chairman of the Forum of Commissioners for Power and Energy in Nigeria.
He said the late Commissioner’s commitment to public service reflected his belief in contributing to the development of Cross River and the country at large.
Ayambem commiserated with Governor Bassey Edet Otu, members of the State Executive Council, the All Progressives Congress family, the people of Ikom and Akparabong community, as well as the deceased’s family, friends and associates.
“Prince Eka Williams believed in service and gave himself to the advancement of Cross River. His death is a painful loss to the state, and his contributions to public service will not be forgotten,” Ayambem said.
The Speaker prayed God to strengthen the family and all those affected by the loss, while asking for the peaceful repose of the late Commissioner’s soul.
