Fresh resignation rocks Cross River PDP as former State Assistant Treasurer cites personal conviction, wishes party candidates success in 2027
Fresh concerns have emerged over the political future of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River State following the resignation of Hon. Prince A. Ekpali as State Assistant Treasurer, coming after the reported exit of former State Chairman, Barr. Venatus Ikem.
Ekpali announced his resignation in a letter addressed to the State Secretary of the PDP, Cross River State Chapter, at the party’s state secretariat on Mary Slessor Avenue, Calabar.
In the letter, titled “My Resignation Letter,” Ekpali said his decision to quit the position was driven by personal conviction.
He expressed gratitude to his supporters from the ward to the state level for standing by him throughout his time in the party, while also acknowledging the support he received from former State Chairman, Barr. Venatus Ikem.
Despite his departure from the party position, Ekpali wished all PDP candidates success in the 2027 elections.
His resignation comes in the wake of the reported exit of Ikem, raising fresh questions about the party’s internal cohesion, leadership stability and political direction ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The successive departures could intensify concerns among party members and supporters about the state of the PDP’s leadership structure in Cross River, particularly as political alignments and preparations for the next electoral cycle gather momentum.
However, Ekpali did not directly attribute his resignation to Ikem’s departure or disclose further reasons for his decision in the letter.
Whether the latest development signals a wider wave of defections or remains an isolated decision is yet to be established.
For now, the twin developments have placed renewed attention on the Cross River PDP and its efforts to maintain party unity and political relevance ahead of 2027.
