…Speaker Ayambem hails Governor’s swift action on laws aimed at strengthening governance and protecting citizens
Cross River State Governor, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, has assented to the Supplementary and Revised Budget, alongside the Medical Quackery (Prohibition) Bill and the Social Welfare Bill, further strengthening the legal and policy framework for his administration’s People’s First agenda.
The bills were formally presented to the Governor by the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chief Elvert Ayambem, on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.
Speaking during the presentation, Speaker Ayambem described the three legislative instruments as important measures that reflect the collective commitment of the government to responsive governance and improved welfare for Cross Riverians.
He explained that the Medical Quackery (Prohibition) Bill is designed to protect citizens from unqualified healthcare practitioners and strengthen standards within the health sector.
According to him, the Social Welfare Bill will provide a broader framework for meaningful interventions targeted at vulnerable citizens, while the Supplementary and Revised Budget will support the effective implementation of government programmes and priorities.
The Speaker commended Governor Otu for his prompt assent to the bills, describing the Governor’s action as another demonstration of his commitment to policies and laws that directly improve the lives of Cross Riverians.
Ayambem reaffirmed the commitment of the State Legislature to enacting laws that address the needs of the people and complement the Governor’s People’s First agenda.
He expressed appreciation to Governor Otu for his continued cooperation with the Legislature and his commitment to strengthening governance, promoting prosperity and placing the welfare of Cross Riverians at the centre of government.
