The member representing the people of Bekwara/Obanliku/Obudu federal constituency, Hon. Peter Akpanke, has reaffirmed his commitment to the development of Utugwang, donating ₦1 million to support the community’s New Yam Festival.
Akpanke’s presence at the colourful cultural gathering drew attention as traditional leaders, prominent sons and daughters of Utugwang, and residents converged to celebrate the community’s heritage and the annual harvest.
Speaking during the event, the lawmaker commended the people of Utugwang for sustaining their cultural traditions and using the festival as a platform to promote unity, peace, and communal development.
He assured the community that his support would go beyond the festival, promising to continue working towards attracting more development projects and interventions more than the primary school built by him in the area.
According to him, meaningful representation must translate into tangible benefits for the people, stressing that communities such as Utugwang deserve sustained attention and development.
His ₦1 million donation was received as a major show of support for the celebration, further underscoring his relationship with the community and his interest in its cultural and developmental affairs.
The festival also provided an opportunity for community leaders and stakeholders to interact, celebrate their shared heritage, and reflect on Utugwang’s future.
