The people of Utanga and Becheve Wards in Obanliku Local Government Area have unanimously endorsed Hon. Peter Akpanke as their sole candidate for the House of Representatives in the coming elections.
The endorsement took place at Government Secondary School, Baga 1, during a grand gathering organised by the people of both wards in Cross River State.
Speaking on behalf of the Becheve people, Elder Comrade Francis Okangwa described Hon. Akpanke as a child of destiny. He commended the lawmaker for the cordial relationship he has maintained with the Becheve people and for the modest but impactful achievements he has recorded within a short time in office.
In the same vein, Hon. Linus Ukpaka, speaking for Utanga Ward, commended the Governor of Cross River State, Sen. Prince Bassey Otu, for giving a son of Obanliku the opportunity to return to the National Assembly and rise to become a ranking member. He praised Hon. Akpanke for his people-orientated representation, citing among his achievements a three-classroom block sited at the very venue of the endorsement. He declared that the people of Utanga and Becheve would speak with one voice and deliver their votes to Hon. Akpanke.
Coordinating the event, the Leader of the Obanliku Legislative Council, Hon. Elam Sunday, called for the motion of endorsement. The motion was moved by Hon. Samuel Tioga, former Chief Whip of the Obanliku Legislative Council, and seconded by Hon. Sebastine Taku, the serving Councillor representing Utanga Ward.
The high point of the event was the pouring of libation and prayers to the gods of Utanga and Becheve, sealing the endorsement on behalf of the “Eko-Ulogba” nation. The royal rites were performed by His Royal Highness, Chief Felix Sohumba, Clan Head of Utanga, supported by other chiefs and elders in attendance.
The endorsement reaffirms the overwhelming support enjoyed by Hon. Akpanke across Obanliku LGA ahead of 2027.
