There is excitement in Shikpeche community, Bishiri North Ward of Obanliku Local Government Area, as the Member representing Bekwarra/Obudu/Obanliku Federal Constituency, Hon. Peter Akpanke, has commenced the drilling of a solar-powered motorised borehole to address the community’s long-standing water crisis.
For years, residents of Shikpeche have endured the hardship of accessing potable water, with the community’s water challenge repeatedly attracting public attention. The commencement of the project has now brought renewed hope to residents who have described the intervention as timely and significant.
Community leaders and residents turned out to welcome the project, praising Akpanke for responding to a need that has affected the community for years.
In a traditional show of appreciation, the oldest Chief of the community, Chief Mathias Etenikang, poured libation and invoked blessings upon the lawmaker, praying for God’s favour and blessings upon Hon. Akpanke.
Speaking on behalf of the community’s elites, Hon. Steven Eneng expressed appreciation to Akpanke for the intervention, saying the people would remember his contribution to the community.
The Shikpeche borehole adds to a growing list of constituency interventions being championed by Akpanke across the federal constituency, with emphasis on projects that directly address the everyday needs of constituents.
From electricity to water and other grassroots infrastructure, the lawmaker’s interventions have continued to place basic community needs at the centre of his representation.
For Shikpeche residents, the message from the project site is simple: a long-standing promise of better living conditions is beginning to take shape.
Peter Akpanke. Bringing representation closer to the people.
