Following the recent peaceful protest by market women in Obanliku Local Government Area over concerns of neglect, exclusion, and the alleged diversion of benefits intended for them, Hon. Bridget Alina Kedang, JP, has stepped in to address the issues and reassure the women of government attention.
Representing the Office of the Wife of the Governor of Cross River State, Bishop Eyoanwan Bassey Otu, Hon. Kedang met with the market women and provided a platform for them to openly express their grievances and concerns.
Addressing the gathering, she assured the women that their complaints had been duly received and would be communicated to the appropriate authorities for prompt consideration and necessary action. She urged them to remain peaceful, united, and hopeful, stressing the importance of ensuring that empowerment programmes and benefits targeted at market women reach the intended beneficiaries.
As part of the intervention, cash support was distributed across the ten wards of Obanliku Local Government Area to assist market women and further demonstrate the commitment of the Wife of the Governor to the welfare, empowerment, and economic advancement of women at the grassroots.
The engagement created an atmosphere of constructive dialogue and renewed confidence among the women, many of whom expressed appreciation for the swift response and concern shown towards their plight.
Speaking on behalf of the Obanliku Market Women Association, the leadership of the group conveyed profound gratitude to the Wife of the Governor, Bishop Eyoanwan Bassey Otu, for her compassion and timely intervention.
They also commended Hon. Bridget Alina Kedang, JP, for personally engaging with them, listening to their concerns, and ensuring that their voices were conveyed to the appropriate quarters.
The market women reaffirmed their support for initiatives aimed at improving their welfare and pledged to continue working together in peace, unity, and cooperation for the overall development and progress of Obanliku Local Government Area.
