It was a rich harvest today for the ruling All Progressives Congress ( APC) in Obanliku, as the Executive Chairman of Obanliku, Hon. Chief (Dr.) Sunny Ayang, alongside the Chapter Chairman of the All Progressive Congress, Pastor George Ejikang joined the governor of Cross River State, His Excellency, Senator Bassey Otu, and the Speaker of Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Elvert Ayambem to welcome the member representing Obanliku Constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly, Hon. Pius Ashakia, and hundreds of PDP defectors to the ruling APC.
Hon. Ashakia, in his defection speech, acknowledged that his decision to join the APC was after a careful assessment and consideration of the development strides of the executive governor of Cross River State.
Following the official defection speech of the House member, Hon. Sunny Ayang remarked that Obanliku is now APC; hence, all those still sitting on the fence should make haste to join the progressive folk. The Chairman used the occasion to express his determination to transform Obanliku, while pronouncing more appointments into his cabinet, including the new entrants to the party.
The Chapter Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Pst George Ejikang, expressed his delight over the defection of Hon Ashakia. He assured a level playing ground for all the defectors to the ruling APC.
At the event, which was held at the Civic Centre, Sankwala, the governor of Cross River State, Prince Bassey Otu, and the Speaker of the CRSHA, Rt Hon Elvert Ayambem were respectively represented by Hon. Sylvester Agabi, the Deputy Speaker of the CRSHA and Hon. Engr. Thomas Aruku, member representing Ogoja Constituency. The governor expressed his determination to ensure Obanliku gets the full benefits that may have eluded it during the days of its sojourn in the opposition at the House of Assembly.
A highlight of the event was the presentation of the party ( APC) symbol to the defectors by the chapter chairman, Pastor George Ejikang, and the chanting of the party slogan.
Among those present were the Community Relations Officer, Chief Linus Afen, the Leader of the Council, Hon Sunday Elam, along with the Ward Councillors, the Secretary of Council, Dr Joseph Agba, supervisors, political appointees, APC stakeholders, and members.
