In a renewed demonstration of his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development, Governor Bassey Edet Otu has commenced the rehabilitation of critical failed portions of the Ikom–Boki–Obudu Federal Highway.
The project officially got underway on Sunday, June 7, 2026, with the deployment of construction equipment to the project corridor, marking the beginning of a 10-kilometre road intervention approved by the Governor to address long-standing challenges along the highway and stimulate economic growth within the Central Senatorial District.
The intervention follows repeated appeals from residents and youth groups across the Ikom, Etung, Boki, and Obudu axis who had expressed concerns over the deteriorating state of the federal road. Responding swiftly to these concerns, Governor Otu approved the rehabilitation of the most severely damaged sections to ease transportation difficulties and restore accessibility.
The road works will focus on key stretches of the highway, commencing from Ajijimkpor in Ikom Local Government Area, passing through Bendeghe in Etung Local Government Area, and continuing through Biakwan, Orimekpang, Bashua, and Wula in Boki Local Government Area.
When completed, the project is expected to improve the movement of people, agricultural produce, and commercial goods, while strengthening economic activities, enhancing access to rural communities, and providing safer travel conditions for motorists and commuters.
The latest intervention further underscores Governor Otu’s commitment to delivering practical development initiatives under his administration’s People First agenda.
