The Senator representing Cross River North Senatorial District, Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, has officially defected from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
His defection was formally announced during Tuesday’s plenary session through a letter addressed to the Senate President and read by the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibril.
In his letter, Senator Jarigbe explained that his decision followed what he described as “deep-seated and irreconcilable divisions” within the PDP at both national and state levels.
“I write to formally notify you and the distinguished leadership of the Senate of my resignation from the People’s Democratic Party, on whose platform I was elected to represent the good people of Cross River North Senatorial District,” the letter read in part.
He further stated that his move to the APC was motivated by a desire to align with a more stable and progressive platform capable of advancing the interests of his constituents.
“After deep and thoughtful reflection on the state of my former party, I have decided to join the ranks of the All Progressives Congress in the best interests of my constituents and my continued pursuit of effective representation,” he said.
Following the announcement, Senator Jarigbe was warmly received by the Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibril; Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele; Chief Whip, Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno; and other APC principal officers and members.
The development marks a significant political realignment in Cross River State, as Senator Jarigbe becomes the latest high-profile lawmaker from the region to join the ruling party.
