Residents of Anyikang Community in Ibiaragidi Ward, Bekwarra Local Government Area, have received a major boost in access to clean and reliable water following the provision of a solar-powered borehole facilitated by the Member representing Bekwarra/Obudu/Obanliku Federal Constituency, Hon. Peter Akpanke.
For years, residents of the community have faced difficulties accessing safe water, with the challenge becoming more pronounced during the dry season. The new borehole is expected to reduce the burden on households and provide a dependable source of water for domestic use.
Community elders who spoke on behalf of the residents expressed appreciation to Hon. Peter Akpanke for the intervention, describing the project as timely and responsive to one of the community’s basic needs.
They noted that the solar-powered system would provide a more sustainable water supply while reducing the challenges associated with accessing water, particularly during the dry season.
The intervention adds to Hon. Akpanke’s growing focus on grassroots infrastructure and basic amenities across the federal constituency, with water projects, solar-powered facilities and other community interventions forming part of efforts to address immediate needs in rural communities.
For residents of Anyikang, the arrival of the solar-powered borehole represents more than a new infrastructure project. It means easier access to water and relief for families who have endured years of difficulty in meeting one of their most basic daily needs.
