The Etung Women in Politics have declared their support for the administration of Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Edet Otu, and expressed their commitment to the success of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The women, led by Mrs. Mary Eba, made this known during a solidarity visit to the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, at his residence in Nde, Ikom LGA.
The group’s delegation described themselves as “small but mighty,” stressing that the size of Etung Local Government Area has never diminished the political strength, contributions and influence of its people.
The group said it was committed to the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Otu, and other APC candidates, while also calling for greater inclusion of women in governance and political appointments.
The women also praised Speaker Ayambem for his unique leadership style, accessibility, and humility, describing him as the voice of the voiceless and a leader who has consistently demonstrated loyalty, commitment, and selfless service to the People’s First administration of Governor Otu.
Responding, Speaker Ayambem thanked the women for their solidarity and assured them of the continued support of the Governor Bassey Otu administration for women.
He urged them to remain united, stressing that their unity would strengthen their voice and enable them to benefit more from democratic governance.
Speaker Ayambem also highlighted the historic ties between Ikom and Etung, describing the people as one despite the creation of Etung as a separate local government area.
He noted that although Etung is one of the smaller LGAs in the state, its people have remained prominent in politics, business and academia.
The women presented gifts and a portrait to the Speaker as a symbol of their solidarity and commitment.
