Residents of Bugene Community in Bebi Ward, Obanliku Local Government Area, are set to receive relief from years of water scarcity as the Member representing Bekwarra, Obudu and Obanliku Federal Constituency, Hon. Peter Akpanke, has facilitated the drilling and installation of a solar-powered motorised borehole in the community.
The intervention is part of Hon. Akpanke’s ongoing efforts to improve access to potable water in rural communities across his constituency.
For years, residents of Bugene have faced difficulties accessing clean and safe water for their daily needs. The situation has placed additional pressure on households, with women and children often bearing much of the burden of travelling considerable distances in search of water.
The new solar-powered borehole, when completed, is expected to provide the community with a more reliable and sustainable source of water for domestic use.
Unlike conventional water systems that depend heavily on electricity or fuel-powered generators, the solar-powered facility is designed to harness solar energy to operate the pumping system. This is expected to make the water supply more sustainable and suitable for a rural community.
