The Cross River State Government has approved the temporary relocation of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Permanent Orientation Camp from Obubra to the University of Education and Entrepreneurship, Akamkpa, to allow for the comprehensive renovation and upgrading of the existing facility.
The approval was announced in a press release dated October 15, 2026, and signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. A. Owan Enoh.
According to the statement, the decision, approved by Governor Bassey Edet Otu, is aimed at creating room for the remodelling and modernisation of the Obubra camp, which has served the NYSC scheme in the state for several years.
The government noted that the existing facility had become overstretched and required urgent intervention to meet modern standards and provide a safer, more comfortable environment for corps members.
It explained that the University of Education and Entrepreneurship, Akamkpa, had been assessed and found suitable to host the orientation exercise, with adequate facilities including hostels, water supply, electricity, a parade ground and security infrastructure.
The government stressed that the relocation is strictly temporary, assuring stakeholders that the NYSC orientation camp would return to Obubra upon completion of the renovation works.
It also appealed to stakeholders to support the initiative, describing it as part of the state government’s continued investment in infrastructure to promote youth development and strengthen national service.
The development is expected to provide an opportunity for the Obubra camp to undergo the necessary improvements while ensuring that orientation activities continue in a suitable environment.
The Cross River State Government reaffirmed its commitment to improving public infrastructure and creating better conditions for corps members serving in the state.
