In a spirited celebration of culture and community, the Executive Chairman of Obanliku Local Government Area, Hon. Chief (Dr) Sunny Ayang, JP, has flagged off the Obanliku Chairman’s Unity Cup Football Competition as part of the 2025 New Yam Festival.
The competition, set to begin on 11th August 2025, brings together youth football teams from across the wards of Obanliku, promoting unity, talent discovery, and communal participation. The opening match will take place at Ketting Commercial Field by 3:00 PM, while the grand finale is scheduled for 28th August 2025 at OCSS, Sankwala, by 2:30 PM, aligning with the peak of the New Yam celebrations.
Winners will receive trophies, cash prizes, and football kits, reflecting the Chairman’s commitment to youth development and social cohesion through sports.
Traditional rulers, political stakeholders, community leaders, and football lovers within and beyond Obanliku are invited to support this worthy initiative. Events such as this foster unity, empower the youth, and create platforms for the emergence of local talents.
This year’s New Yam Festival in Obanliku is poised to be one of the most vibrant in recent memory, blending age-old traditions with people-centered programs for lasting impact.
