The Cross River State House of Assembly has confirmed the suspension of Hon. Kingsley Agbor Ekuri, the Councilor for Ajassor Ward in Etung Local Government Area, due to accusations of misconduct, insubordination, and endangering the peace of the Local Government.
The suspension, which was first enacted by the Etung Legislative Council, was ratified following a hearing conducted by Hon. Eyo Bassey, a member from Bakassi and Chairman of the Assembly’s Committee on Local Government. The inquiry focused on issues related to revenue management and Hon. Ekuri’s purported breach of the established authority within the council.
It is claimed that Ekuri not only contested the Chairman of Etung LGA regarding revenue distribution but also physically assaulted the Special Adviser on Security for the Chairman and displayed disrespect towards the Leader of the Council.
Key stakeholders, including the Chairman of Etung LGA, Hon. Henry Njar Anom, the Leader of the Legislative Council, and the Special Adviser on Peace and Security were present at the hearing, providing evidence of the councilor’s disruptive behavior.
In declaring the Assembly’s decision, Speaker of the Assembly, Honourable Elvert Ayambem, stated that Ekuri’s actions constituted serious misconduct, justifying both his suspension and immediate arrest; he instructed security officials to detain him for further investigations concerning his involvement in undermining peace in Ajassor and throughout the Etung LGA.
He was apprehended soon after the Assembly’s session.
