Vice President Kashim Shettima has been given the task of leading a presidential team to the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals in Côte d’Ivoire by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
In the thrilling match between the Super Eagles and South Africa in the semi-finals, the Vice President also represented the President. On Sunday, February 11, the Nigerian national team and the host team, Côte d’Ivoire, will square off in an exciting rematch at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan.
The game will bring back memories of Nigeria’s 1-0 triumph in the group stage, which was achieved thanks to a penalty kick from Captain William Troost-Ekong.
The President, His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, believes that Vice President Shettima’s attendance at the finals with the delegation is evidence of the government’s steadfast support for the team and its commitment to their success.
The President recognised the unifying power of football and the significant role the Super Eagles play in fostering national pride and unity.
The federal government further urged all Nigerians, both domestically and overseas, to band together in support of the Super Eagles, to speak out in favour of the team, and to generate a sense of patriotism that will help the team reach new heights.
