The Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem was lauded for his commitment to public service and his notable contributions to community development. The accolades came pouring in during a Thanksgiving service held in his honor at Christ Ascension Church, Nde three corners, Ikom.
Representing the state’s Governor, Senator Prince Bassey Otu, Deputy Governor Rt Hon. Peter Odey took the podium to express the government’s admiration for Speaker Ayambem’s dedication to legislative duties. Governor Otu’s praise extended to Ayambem’s efforts in spearheading the construction of a new church building for his local congregation.
“As Speaker, he is doing very well. He is a good man. We thank God for his life and pray that God will lift him higher. The government will continue to give him the needed support to do more,” Governor Otu affirmed.
The event drew the presence of Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly and Chairman of Speakers Forum, celebrated Ayambem as a friend and a fellow legislator dedicated to public service.
Speaker Ayambem himself shared a profound testimony, emphasizing that nothing can be achieved in life without divine ordination. He articulated his motive for hosting the Thanksgiving service as a gesture of gratitude towards God for His mercies upon him and his family. Ayambem also urged attendees to contribute generously to the church building project as a way to give back to his immediate community.
“A man cannot achieve anything if God does not approve. God has blessed me, and I intend to give back,” the Speaker noted.
He expressed his gratitude to his wife, Mrs. Nelly Elvert Ayambem, for her support and extended appreciation to all those who attended the Thanksgiving service, including the Deputy Governor, Rt. Reverend Gospel Samuel, the Senior Pastor of Christ Ascension Church, commended Speaker Ayambem for his dedication to serving humanity. He highlighted Ayambem’s historic achievement as the first Bakor son and the first indigenous Ikom son to become the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly. The pastor also commended the Speaker’s benevolence and generosity, which have positively impacted his constituency and beyond.
The highlight of the Thanksgiving service was the generous donations of building materials and cash by Speaker Ayambem and those in attendance, along with heartfelt prayers for the Speaker and his family.
