Brilliant, strong willed, dogged, goal getter and spirited are some of the succinct words you could use in describing the phenomenon of the person of Dr Beshel, but the words that captures him more appropriately is his audacity and irrepressible desire for personal and professional growth. He exemplifies what we lack in our modern-day society, the desire to see good in others and wish them well.
Born on 12 June, 1983, in that Kakwalaka village which rests in a serene valley, embraced by majestic, verdant mountains on all sides in Bendi 2 of Obanliku LGA, Justin despite his rural peasant background always showed enough desire and promise that he was going to excel. Now a tenured university don with focus in Biomedical Sciences and a bias for Human Physiology for which he holds a distinction, Dr Beshel has vast teaching and research experience both locally and internationally, contributing to human development and societal advancement.
Dr Beshel possesses a PhD in Cardiovascular Physiology and Bachelors in Human Physiology from the prestigious university of Calabar and a master’s degree in Human Physiology from the Abia State University, Uturu. He is the author of several academic papers and he is well published in both national and internationally renowned high impact journals. His professional prowess has earned him membership to the respected International Brain Research Organization, African Association of Physiological Sciences and Physiological Society of Nigeria amongst others.
This refined gentleman has completed several national assignments including a Diplomatic service to Uganda under the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and was on the accreditation team to several universities across the country.
Dr Beshel has built a sterling career as a teacher in several universities both within and outside the country. In 2020, he rose to the rank of Associate Professor of Physiology, Texila American University, Lusaka, Zambia, previously, he taught as a Senior Lecturer at Kampala International University, Western Campus, Ishaka and the Mount Zion International University of Rwanda, Kigali, Rwanda. Until his nomination as commissioner designate, he is a senior lecturer, Department of Physiology, College of Medical Sciences, University of Calabar.
When not in the classroom or laboratory, Dr Beshel is a savvy and consummate politician. He is a grass rooter, mobiliser and genius campaigner. He was Special adviser on Education to the former Governor and lead several campaign groups for both Presidential and Gubernatorial elections in 2023.
For recreation, leisure and sports, he plays Badminton, writes scripts, loves listening to good music and sitting out with friends.
Dr Beshel’s disposition and life philosophy of seeing the good in everyone has endeared him to his contemporaries, younger ones and even his elders.
As he gears up to take up a cabinet position with the Cross River State Government, coming with his wealth of experience, character and love for his fellow man, I am now more than convinced that the Executive Governor of Cross River State, His Excellency Prince Bassey Otu has selected one of the best hands in his the “The People First” agenda for Cross Riverians.
