The leader of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has weighed in on the recent military-threat issued by Donald Trump against Nigeria in response to alleged extremist violence in the country.
During the church’s November Holy Ghost Service, Pastor Adeboye directed a strong appeal to the federal government led by Bola Tinubu. He urged swift, decisive action to eliminate terrorist groups and their backers, regardless of how influential those may be.
He warned that Nigeria must not rely on external powers to come to its rescue if events escalate. “If America should attack us, China is not coming to defend us. Russia will not come to defend us… they will only talk,” he said.
Pastor Adeboye reminded the government of a previous directive given under former President Muhammadu Buhari, in which a three-month deadline had been set to curb insurgency. He argued that lapse of accountability then had weakened efforts.
His message arrives in the wake of Trump’s threat to cut U.S. aid and consider military intervention if Nigeria fails to protect Christians from extremist violence.
