The Chief of Staff to the Governor of Cross River State, Hon. Emmanuel Ironbar, has charged the youth of the state to embrace skill acquisition as a pathway to personal growth, self-reliance, and national development. His message, delivered in commemoration of World Youth Skills Day 2025, celebrated globally on July 15, was a stirring call to action aimed at unlocking the potential of the younger generation.
In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Patrick Asuquo, in Calabar, Hon. Ironbar reminded young people of their innate ability to succeed in any meaningful pursuit, noting that the future belongs to those who are prepared, those who invest in knowledge, sharpen their abilities, and seize opportunities to grow.
“You have within you the raw potential to be the leaders, innovators, and wealth creators of tomorrow,” he said. “But what transforms that potential into reality is the decision you make today, to pursue growth, to stay curious, and to never stop learning.”
He emphasized the importance of technical and vocational skills in today’s evolving economy, urging youths to explore areas such as digital technology, agriculture, fashion design, construction, and the creative industries, among others.
“Whether your passion lies in technology, agriculture, fashion, construction, design, or the creative arts, there is dignity and power in skill,” Ironbar stated. “Choose a skill. Own it. Hone it. Let it become your stepping stone to the future you desire and deserve.”
While reaffirming the state government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for skill development and youth empowerment, the Chief of Staff noted that true transformation begins with personal responsibility and initiative.
He added, “As a government, we are working tirelessly to open doors of opportunity, but we also know that your success begins with your personal decision to rise.”
World Youth Skills Day, as recognized by the United Nations, highlights the strategic importance of equipping young people with skills for employment, decent work, and entrepreneurship. The theme for 2025 focuses on bridging the skills gap and preparing young people for the future of work.
Hon. Ironbar’s message resonated with many young professionals and aspiring entrepreneurs in Cross River State, who have applauded the state government’s ongoing investments in youth development and the call to action issued by the Chief of Staff.
“May your hands be skilled, your minds sharpened, and your hearts filled with the belief that with God and effort, nothing is beyond your reach,” he concluded.
