CHIEF AKIN RICKETTS CONGRATULATES CROSS RIVER GOVERNOR ELECT, SEN. PRINCE BASSEY OTU.

As Sen. (Prince) Bassey Otu, Cross River Governor-Elect would be sworn into office May 29th, Cross Riverians are full of high expectations from the governor-elect, precisely within the period of 100 days in office.

Opinions have been sampled from different corners and none is anticipating Sen Otu to perform poorly or very poorly.

Out of 15 sampled opinions, 12 said they were sure Otu’s performance in 100 days and beyond to be very outstanding while 3 said they were unsure of how He will perform in his first 100 days in office.

Therefore, it can be said that every three out of five Cross Riverians anticipate Prince Otu to perform very well and exceptional during the first 100 days in office.

From the opinions sampled, the respondents said that their expectations are more one civil servants welfare/promotions and pensions, economic development, job creation and rural development. Though some of these aspects and issues mentioned above cannot be achieved in a period of 100 days in office, it is expected that the issues remain top-of-mind and highly prioritized by Otu’s incoming government.

Senator Otu will have to hit the ground running from day one to live up to these high expectations from Cross Riverians. And to hit the ground running, the governor elect must be decisive and thorough in selecting his cabinet members.

Many Cross Riverians believe Otu’s government won’t be a composition of mediocre or execrable politicians who have no excellence in service delivery and with no political influence or relevance at their various localities or units.

Prince Otu needs to appoint experts and professionals to administer individual government functions, and recommend paragonimus legislation.

As the season of “Sweetness” demands, Sen Otu needs to position a loyal, respectful, humble, lovable and a visionary person to be Speaker, and reflecting equitable distribution of power among the various local government of the state.

Still on the Speakership, five opinions were sampled and one of the respondents on the course of the survey stated that “I think Otu doesn’t need any arrogant person who thinks he can buy everyone to power using money. One said “cross river state is too fragile to handover both the legislative arm of government and the university to a single family.” Another said “let the members of the assembly decide.”, while the other 2 persons noted that it was the business of the ruling party.

Politically, the governor elect needs to start preparing also for 2027, and doing so, he needs to start building capacity and empowering capable hands in vulnerable LGAs especially Ikom, Etung, Obanliku, Bekwara, etc. The aforementioned local governments need critical attention in order to achieve overwhelming victory come 2027.
