The Nigerian Army, on Friday, 7 November 2025, held a solemn prayer session in honour of its late Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja CFR, marking one year since his passing and celebrating his enduring legacy of service, sacrifice, and devotion to Nigeria’s unity and security.
The commemoration, which took place at the Mogadishu Cantonment Central Mosque in Abuja, featured a Special Jumu’ah Prayer attended by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, NAM.
In his remarks, Lieutenant General Shaibu described his late predecessor as “a soldier’s soldier,” praising his humility, discipline, and selfless dedication to duty. He urged personnel to draw inspiration from General Lagbaja’s exemplary leadership and to remain steadfast in their commitment to protecting the nation’s peace and territorial integrity.
Delivering the sermon, the Acting Deputy Director of Islamic Affairs, Army Headquarters Garrison, Lieutenant Colonel Musa Abbas, reminded worshippers that life and death are divine decrees, emphasizing that those who die in the pursuit of justice and peace are eternally honoured before Allah. He prayed for divine forgiveness for the departed and for continued unity, peace, and strength for Nigeria.
The event was attended by dignitaries including former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai (Rtd); former Governor of Jigawa State, His Excellency Ibrahim Saminu Turaki; Commander, Army Headquarters Garrison, Major General Maxwell Dangana; senior military officers; the President of NAOWA, Mrs. Safiyya Hassan Shaibu; and the President of NOWA, Mrs. Aisha Idi Abbas, among others
