This evening’s broadcast on Sparkling FM was nothing short of riveting. I tuned in just in time to catch the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, addressing key developments across the state and he did not disappoint.
The live Q&A segment was electrifying, with a particularly gripping moment when a caller, Ogar from Ikom, fired off a string of tough, thought-provoking questions centred on the Speaker’s primary constituency. To his credit, Ayambem tackled each query with remarkable composure and clarity. There was no evasion just straightforward answers, especially on the persistent issue of electricity in the area.
More compelling was the Speaker’s account of ongoing development projects spanning communities like Akparabong, Nde, and Nta Nsele. From road construction to classroom blocks, the scale of infrastructure work he’s initiated in just two years is both extensive and impactful. These aren’t promises, they are visible efforts backed by real progress.
Yet, it wasn’t just what he said. it was how he said it. Ayambem displayed the kind of oratorical poise rarely seen in our political landscape. He seamlessly highlighted the achievements of the Otu administration, responded to questions without a script, and offered sincere apologies when a caller raised a complaint. His tone struck a balance between humility and authority, a combination that resonates with the people.
Listening to him brought back memories of Chukwuemeka Chikelu’s days as Minister of Information and Communication. Ayambem’s calm yet commanding presence echoed that same era of articulate public service. Since the dawn of the Fourth Republic, few have embodied that blend of eloquence, responsiveness, and grounded leadership.
Rt. Hon. Ayambem is not just presiding over a legislative chamber, he’s building trust, one honest conversation at a time.
