The Governor of Cross River State, Sen. Bassey Otu, on Friday flagged off the 2025 Calabar Marathon and Skateathon, reaffirming the state’s preparedness to host the world-renowned Carnival Calabar in December.
The Governor, who was represented by the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, performed the official flag-off ceremony at Millennium Park in Calabar, where athletes from across the country gathered to compete in the much-anticipated sporting event.
Speaker Ayambem noted that the success of the marathon and skateathon reflects the Otu-led administration’s commitment to peace, youth engagement, and tourism development. He emphasized that Governor Otu has prioritized the security of lives and property, creating an enabling environment for tourism, investment, and innovation.
The event saw Plateau State dominate the men’s category, sweeping the top three medals, while Delta State emerged winners in the female category. Cross River State secured third place in the female race, drawing cheers from the home crowd.
According to the Speaker, the marathon and skateathon are further proof that Cross River remains a major force in Nigeria’s tourism and hospitality sector. He invited investors to take advantage of the growing opportunities in the state, driven by a peaceful and business-friendly atmosphere.
