The Executive Chairman of Obanliku Local Government Area, Hon. Chief (Dr.) Sunny Ayang JP, hosted the members of the 8th Governing Council of the Federal College of Education (F.C.E.), Obudu, headed by Hon. Ahmed Abdullahi, during a courtesy visit to his office on Tuesday in Sankwala.
Hon. Chief Sunny Ayang, in his welcome remarks, appreciated the Governing Council for the visit and commended their leadership. He also extended special regards to the governing council chairman, Hon. Ahmed Abdullahi, describing him as a man known for his kind-heartedness and inclusive disposition.
The Chairman went on to highlight key concerns and expectations of the Obanliku people which included the urgent reactivation of the F.C.E Obudu permanent site located at Bebi Campus. He appealed for the fair consideration of qualified Obanliku indigenes in employment opportunities, including key administrative positions in the college, and also criticized the current lack of Obanliku representation and urged the Council to adopt a deliberate policy that addresses the imbalance.
Hon. Sunny also requested that contract opportunities be extended to capable contractors from Obanliku to foster local empowerment.
In his response, the governing council chairman, Hon. Abdullahi expressed the Council’s commitment to pursuing developmental initiatives that will positively impact the people of Obanliku. He lauded Hon. Sunny for his humility and willingness to grant the team audience despite the short notice.
Hon. Ahmed Abdullahi acknowledged the concerns raised, noting that these issues have been brought to the fore in various discussions. He emphasized that the appeals touch on the rights of the Obanliku people and assured that a policy direction is already being considered to ensure equitable development across both campuses of the college. He also shared his vision of upgrading the institution into a University of Education.
The Registrar of the college, Dr. Evans Osakwe, appreciated the Chairman for the warm reception and pledged that the Council would thoroughly review the issues and appeals raised.
Also present were the Provost of the College, Dr. R.U. Utubaku; Deputy Provost, Dr. Hisham Aliyu; NCCE representative, Mr. Anwan Amos; Hon. Ahmad Mohammed; Dr. Magdalene Bisong; Chief (Mrs.) Geraldine Etuk; congregational representatives—Mr. Ogar Simon, Pst Ajao Taiwo, and Mr. Akpereka P.U., as well as Mr. Ukandi Emmanuel Inakefe, Vice Chairman of Council, Hon. Glory Awowoh, and the Secretary of Council Dr. Joseph Agba.
