The Governor of Cross River State, His Excellency Senator Bassey Otu, has commissioned the Obanliku Riders, a transportation system launched by the Executive Chairman of Obanliku, Chief Hon (Dr) Sunny Ayang JP, designed to improve access to affordable transportation for the people of Obanliku.
The Governor, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, RT Hon Peter Odinga Odey, oversaw the inspection of the newly constructed Education Authority Secretariat, while the Deputy Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Hon Sylvester Agabi Jnr, commissioned the Obanliku Riders on the Governor’s behalf at the Council Secretariat in Sankwala.
During the launch of the Obanliku Riders, Governor Bassey Otu commended Hon Sunny Ayang for his remarkable accomplishments within his first 100 days, describing the initiative as an important advancement in transforming Obanliku’s transportation system. “This marks the beginning of a new approach centered on sustainability and the well-being of the people of Obanliku and Cross River,” he stated.
The Governor noted that the Obanliku Riders and other initiatives introduced during the first 100 days of office demonstrate Chief Ayang’s commitment to alleviating economic difficulties for the people of Obanliku, enhancing revenue generation, and promoting infrastructure development in the local government. He emphasized that selecting Hon. Sunny as the Chairman of Obanliku was indeed a wise decision, adding that Hon. Sunny is a strong political force. Therefore, his accomplishments come as no surprise. He further assured the Executive Chairman that his appeals are relevant and will be addressed in stages.
Earlier in the Chairman’s remarks at the event, Hon. Chief Sunny Ayang expressed, “My executive team and I have chosen to embrace discomfort so that Obanliku can experience comfort.” He underscored the successes of his administration in the sectors of health, education, youth development, infrastructure, and transportation, which include the refurbishment of Utanga Clinic, the completion of the Local Government Education Authority building, and the acquisition of two eighteen-seater buses and two minibusses to help address transportation challenges faced by the community.
Hon. Ayang remarked that despite inheriting an administration with limited revenue for the local government council, his team has proactively sought innovative solutions to improve the revenue situation of the local government.
He thanked the Executive Governor and the people of Obanliku for the privilege of serving them while highlighting critical areas that need the Governor’s intervention. Among the issues raised by Hon. Sunny were the deteriorating roads in Ablesang-Buya ring road, Basang West, Ketting-Bayaga, Amana-Cameroun, water supply issues, and ineffective solar lighting.
Notable comments were made by Honourable Commissioner for Science and Technology, Dr. Justin Beshel, the former speaker of the CRSHA, Rt. Hon. Maurice Evey, and HRM Uchua Amos Item.
Other notable figures in the Governor’s delegation included the former Chief of Staff to the Cross River State governor, Chief Martin Orim, and the member representing Odukpani and Leader, CRSHA, Rt. Hon. Francis Bassey.
The event saw a huge turnout from Obanliku stakeholders, including Chief Ukandi Inakefe, Barr Pius AWAH, the Community Relations Officer, Chief Linus Afen, the Obanliku legislative council led by Hon Sunday Elam, traditional leaders led by HRM Uchua Amos Item, political appointees, and council staff, among others.
