The Cross River State government has officially commenced preparations for the 2024 edition of its flagship carnival with the first dry run, held in a lively and festive atmosphere. Themed “Our Shared Prosperity,” the event brought together several distinguished dignitaries, underscoring the carnival’s role in fostering cultural identity, unity, and economic growth.
Representing the Governor, the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, led the event, accompanied by notable figures such as Her Excellency Mrs. Onari Duke, former First Lady of Cross River State; the Commissioner of Police; Chairman of the Carnival Commission, Hon. Gabe Onah; Commissioner for Information, Hon. Erasmus Ekpang; the Special Adviser on Events, Hon. Effiong Ekpenyong and also Hon. Austin Cobham, the Executive Secretary of Carnival Commission.
Media officials present included Mr. Nsa Gill, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, and Mr. Patrick Asuquo, Special Assistant on Media in the Office of the Chief of Staff.
This dry run marks the beginning of preparations for an engaging and vibrant carnival season, designed to encourage local participation and draw international visitors.
