The Cross River State House of Assembly Members have defeated the State Executives of the All Progressive Congress (APC) 2-0 in the Governor’s Cup, which was held at the UJ Esuene Stadium.
Speaking about the victory, the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, stated that the Assembly Members’ success was a result of their rigorous training in the days leading up to the game. Speaker Ayambem stressed the importance of the occasion in promoting unity between the Legislative and Executive branches of government, in addition to the athletic event.
Speaking at the ceremony, Speaker Ayambem said, “This victory is not just about the funfair; it is about keeping fit and uniting the legislature and the executive as essential arms of government.” The game provided a forum for constructive rivalry as well as forging ties between important state government agencies.
Speaker Ayambem expressed appreciation to Governor Sen. Prince Bassey Otu for his efforts in organising the Governor’s Cup. He applauded the governor for bringing back the Governor’s Cup, emphasising its twofold function of identifying up-and-coming talent and advancing public health.
