The Cross River State House of Assembly has successfully confirmed the second batch of commissioner nominees, bringing the total number of confirmed nominees to 24 out of the 26 presented by State Governor Senator Bassey Otu.

To ensure a thorough and meticulous process, the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt Hon Elvert Ayambem, had earlier announced that the confirmation would be done in three batches.

During the plenary session, the House Committee on Judiciary, Public Service Matters, Public Petitions, and Conflict Resolution presented their report, stating that the confirmed nominees had met all constitutional requirements and had undergone a rigorous scrutiny process.

The nominees underwent a question and answer session to assess their capabilities. The lawmakers expressed satisfaction with the integrity and qualifications of the confirmed nominees, commending Governor Otu for his wise selections to enhance the growth of Cross River State.

The confirmed nominees include Dr. Beatrice Igwe, Mr. Mike Odere, Hon. Patrick Egbede, Dr. Egbe Ayuk, Pastor Ekpeyong Cobham, Barr. Ijom Ukam, Barr. Mensah Bassey, Hon. Edama Erom, Bishop Margaret Ene Ita, , Chief Francis Ekpeyong, Barr. Ededem Ani, Ntufam Emmanuel Anum and Hon. Ita

However, the nomination of Mrs. Gladys Eutemdala from Yakurr local government area was declined after the Committee Chairman on Judiciary, Rt. Hon. Davis Etta, revealed the existence of several petitions from concerned Yakurr indigenes. The 10th Assembly prioritized the interests of the people and decided not to confirm her appointment.

In response to their appointments, some of the confirmed nominees, including Dr. Beatrice Igwe and Prince Eka Williams, expressed their gratitude to Governor Otu for the privilege to serve the State and vowed to work diligently to enhance the State Executive Council’s effectiveness.

Matthew Okache,
Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker
