The Obanliku Women Development Association (OWDA), the umbrella body representing all Obanliku women residing in Calabar, has elected a new executive council to oversee the association’s affairs.
The election, which was held on Saturday, 18 January 2026, marked a new chapter in the life of the organisation as members unanimously chose a team expected to strengthen unity, promote family welfare, and support government efforts toward peace and development in Obanliku Local Government Area.
The new leadership is headed by an academic and grassroots women mobilizer, Dr. Mrs. Christy Ushie, who emerged as President. Speaking after the exercise, Dr Ushie reaffirmed the association’s commitment to family and community growth, while other members expressed confidence that the new executives would deepen cooperation among Obanliku women, encourage harmony, and advance initiatives that improve the social and economic well-being of families and communities.

Members of the association described the election as peaceful and transparent and pledged their full support to the new executive council in its task of promoting solidarity, empowering women, and contributing to the overall development of Obanliku Local Government Area
