The Executive Chairman of Obanliku Local Government Area, Hon Chief (Dr) Sunny Ayang JP, has strengthened local security with the commissioning of new community policing uniforms and a fully equipped patrol Hilux. The move signals a firm push to improve grassroots safety and operational efficiency across the area.
He thanked the President, Sen Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the Governor of Cross River State, Sen Bassey Otu, for supporting the community policing structure. He called on officers to work with discipline and integrity, and reminded them that neutrality, fairness and steady conduct remain central to their duty.
He cautioned against misconduct and restated that no member of the unit is allowed to carry arms. Any breach, he said, will face legal action. He also directed that all suspects be properly recorded and handed over to the Nigeria Police for further action.
The Chairman noted that more communication tools, including walkie talkies, will soon be introduced to aid surveillance and quick response across all communities. Obanliku remains the only local government in the state with a formal community policing system.
The event drew leaders of council, security agencies, council staff, appointees and community representatives.
