The Executive Chairman of Obanliku Local Government Area, Chief Hon. (Dr.) Sunny Ayang, JP, has returned to Calabar following a courtesy and solidarity visit to the Member representing Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency, Hon. Godwin Offiono, in Abuja.
The engagement was part of ongoing consultations for the constitution review process and the broader campaign to create Ogoja State and more LGAs.
During the meeting, Chief Ayang and his delegation reaffirmed their support for the proposed state while voicing strong concerns over the number of Local Government Areas allocated to Obanliku in the draft document. They argued that Obanliku, despite being the second-largest LGA by landmass in the region after Yala, was allotted just one LGA (Bendi), smaller than other counterparts who had up to four/five, an outcome they described as inequitable.
Hon Godwin Offiono assured them that the current stage is only the beginning and that when the process reaches the stage of LGA delineation, all appeals and concerns including Obanliku’s will be carefully reviewed and considered.
Others in the delegation who joined the Chairman to Calabar include Rt. Hon. Achunekang Sunday Ikwen, Hon. Sunday Elam, and Dr. (Mrs.) Mary-Theresa Ikwen, mni.
