As Nigeria marks this year’s Democracy Day, the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, has called on citizens to remain united in purpose and committed to democratic ideals.
In a statement released today, Speaker Ayambem described Democracy Day as more than just a commemorative date, but a celebration of the “enduring spirit of democracy that binds us together as one people.”
“Democracy is the voice of the people, the will of the electorate, and the power of collective progress,” he said.
Reaffirming the Assembly’s dedication to democratic principles, Ayambem pledged that the 10th Cross River State House of Assembly remains committed to enacting laws and providing oversight that reflect the true aspirations of the people.
“As Speaker, I reaffirm our unwavering commitment to upholding the values of representation, transparency, and good governance,” he stated.
He emphasised that democracy flourishes when citizens are informed, engaged, and united in purpose, urging all Nigerians to protect the nation’s democratic gains through respect for the rule of law and inclusive governance.
“On behalf of the 10th Assembly, I salute every Cross Riverian and every Nigerian who continues to believe in the democratic process,” Ayambem said. “Together, we will keep building a future where peace, justice, and development are not just ideals but realities.”
He concluded by extending warm Democracy Day wishes to all Nigerians, with a special tribute to the people of Cross River State.
Happy Democracy Day, Nigeria.
God bless Cross River State.
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
