In a key effort to promote gender equality and biodiversity through actionable laws, the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly Speaker attended a two-day workshop organized by WARDC Africa, UN Women, and Women in Politics, which took place at the reputable Protea Hotel, in Lagos State.
Representing Speaker Elvert Ayambem, the Deputy Speaker, Hon Sylvester Agabi called on his fellow lawmakers to prioritise passing important bills that encourage participation from all groups in society. He particularly emphasised the need to ensure that women and girls have a voice in important decisions that affect their lives.
According to the Deputy Speaker, the workshop marks an important step in developing a comprehensive Biodiversity, Equity, and Inclusion Bill. He explained that the workshop aimed to develop a bill that specifically addresses the needs of women and children.
Hon Agabi said that the workshop invigorated the lawmakers and assured them to continue working together with relevant stakeholders to ensure the bill is passed and implemented for a more inclusive and equitable society for everyone in Nigeria. Key stakeholders highlighted the need to create laws that address the essential needs of women and children while promoting gender equality in both political and environmental contexts.
The workshop had in attendance Speakers from various states including Lagos, Ebonyi, Ekiti, and others, all dedicated to promoting gender equality and biodiversity through actionable laws.
