In a historic event marking the first 100 days in office of the Executive Chairman of Obanliku, Hon. Sunny Ayang, the Executive Governor of Cross River State, Senator Bassey Edet Otu commissioned some landmark projects executed by the administration.
Speaking during the ceremony, Hon. Sunny stated “I and members of my executive have decided to be uncomfortable so that Obanliku can be comfortable. ” He highlighted the achievements of the administration in the health, education, youth empowerment, infrastructure, and transport sectors, including the rehabilitation of Utanga Clinic, the Completion of the Local Government Education Authority building, and the procurement of two eighteen-seater buses, two modern Siennas and two minibusses to ameliorate the challenge of transportation faced by his people. Hon. Ayang maintained that though he succeeded in an administration faced with low revenue accrued to the local government council, his administration has proactively explored innovative solutions that have enhanced the revenue status of the local government council.
He appreciated the Executive Governor and the Obanliku people for the opportunity given to him to serve while drawing the attention of the executive governor to critical areas that required his intervention. Among the challenges raised by Hon. Sunny are the devastated roads in Ablesang-Buya ring road, Basang West, , Ketting-Bayaga, Amana-Cameroun, water supply, and inefficient solar lights.
While responding, the Executive Governor who was ably represented by the deputy governor of Cross River State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey and the Deputy Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Hon. Sylvester Agabi, at different events, commended Hon. Sunny Ayang for his remarkable achievements in just 100 days in office. He maintained that the choice of Hon. Sunny as Chairman of Obanliku was never a mistake, adding that Hon. Sunny is a formidable force in politics. Hence, his performance is never a surprise. He further assured the Executive Chairman that his appeal is germane, and will be considered in phases.
Notable remarks were received from the Honourable Commissioner for Science and Technology, Dr. Justin Beshel, former speaker of the CRSHA, Rt. Hon. Maurice Evey and HRM Uchua Amos Item.
Other distinguished personalities in the governor’s entourage included the member representing Odukpani and Leader, CRSHA, Rt. Hon. Francis Bassey and former Chief of Staff to the Cross River State governor, Chief Martins Orim. The ceremony was well attended by Obanliku stakeholders, Obanliku legislative council, traditional rulers, political appointees, and council staff, amongst others.
