The Theresa Ushie Foundation has once again made a significant impact in the health sector of Bekwarra Local Government Area, Cross River State, by hosting a comprehensive medical outreach on Friday, September 27, 2024, at the Primary Health Care Centre, Model Abuochiche.
The outreach provided an array of free healthcare services to the community, with an emphasis on general medical consultations, child health promotion, diabetes and hypertension screening and treatment, as well as specialized female reproductive health counseling. Attendees also benefited from guidance on hand and dental hygiene, breast health, and advocacy on MPOX and cancer control.
In addition, free medications were dispensed to patients, mosquito nets were distributed as part of the foundation’s effort to combat malaria, a prevalent health issue in the region, and free eye care and glasses were also given. The event also featured emergency clinic services.
Theresa Ushie, the founder of the foundation and a leading aspirant for the Chairmanship of Bekwarra LGA, has been a key figure in advocating for improved healthcare in the local government. For years, she has organized similar events, delivering essential medical services to underserved communities. Ushie’s supporters argue that her dedication to the people of Bekwarra will only increase if she is elected as Chairman, promising that her leadership would see the expansion of these initiatives.
“This outreach is just one of many we have done to ensure that our people receive the medical attention they deserve. As Chairman, I will have the platform and resources to do even more,” Ushie stated during the event.
The outreach was organized in partnership with the State Ministry of Health (General Hospital, Bekwarra, Abuochiche) and the State Primary Health Care Development Agency (SPHCDA). The event officially commenced with an opening prayer by Rev Fr. Clement Imor to followed by the opening ceremony led by the Paramount Ruler of Bekwarra, HRM Linus Ogbeche Odey (Ushie-Ebeshe K-akpa II)
