The Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Elvert Ayambem on Saturday, attended a Requiem Mass which was held to honour the late Chief Francis Akpo, who was the father-in-law of former Governor Ben Ayade.
The ceremony was held at St Charles Borromeo Parish in Obudu and was attended by many dignitaries, including the state governor, Sen. Prince Bassey Edet, and Prof. Ivara Esu, a former deputy governor. Senator Rt. Hon. Eteng Jonah Williams and other high-ranking government officials were also present.
During the ceremony, the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem acknowledged Chief Francis as a disciplined educationist and mentor whose influence extended beyond his immediate circle. He expressed his deepest condolences to the mourning families of Ayade and Akpo and emphasized the profound impact that Chief Francis had on those who had the privilege of being mentored by him.
“The loss of this great educationist and mentor was felt deeply by all who knew him, and his passing left a void in many people’s lives. However, his legacy lives on through the many lives he touched and the memories he left behind”, Ayambem said.
