The University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) staff led a demonstration against Prof. Augustine Oko Angba, the vice chancellor, at the Cross River State House of Assembly (CRSHA) due to unpaid salaries. The demonstrators held signs expressing their displeasure with their circumstances and shouted, “VC must go.”
According to the demonstrators, they had not received their salaries in over three months, adding that Prof. Angba had ignored them because he was preoccupied with foreign travel during the holiday season when they were having financial difficulties.
The speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, addressed the demonstrators and urged them to continue doing their jobs with dedication.
Ayambem assured them that the House of Assembly has heard their plea and will take appropriate action. He also gave the demonstrators his word that he would seek intervention from the state governor, Senator Prince Bassey Otu, and Professor Angba.
